A Fishing Story: Elders' Knowledge at the Service of the Community!

Based on the stories of the elderly, we drew up a portrait of capelin spawning on the North Shore in 2008. We used 1980 as the reference year to indicate what happened before and after this period. It seems that changes occurred after this reference year, according to several interviewees. Historical spawning site location maps were therefore produced based on this data. We also included the spawning sites currently used on the same maps so that we could compare firsthand whether there had been significant changes in capelin's habits. By consulting these maps, the reader can quickly identify the places deserted by capelin (e.g., the Bay of Sept-Îles).
