Density data (number of individuals per square meter) of epifauna acquired by Philippe Archambault's laboratory as part of the Hypoxia project aboard the R/V Coriolis II in August 2006 and July 2007. Eleven stations were sampled at depths ranging from 257 to 435 m. At each station, thirty images were acquired using an underwater camera system equipped with a Pentax Optio MX4 digital camera (resolution: 4.0 Megapixels) mounted perpendicular to the seabed. The area of each image was equivalent to 0.82 ± 0.02 m2.
Of these 30 images, 15 images were analyzed using ImageJ software. Benthic organisms have been identified at the lowest possible taxonomic level. A total of 157 images were therefore analyzed, which made it possible to count 60 taxa. The dataset also includes environmental data, such as salinity, temperature (°C), oxygen concentration (µm and %), as well as organic matter content in the sediment (%) and sediment granulometry (µm).
