The Directory, produced in cooperation with thirty partners, contains information about public access obtained from 46 sources and was previously published between 1989 and 2009. The Directory covers the entire St. Lawrence River, from Cornwall to Blanc-Sablon, and includes the Magdalen Islands, Anticosti Island along with 11 rivers prioritized in the St. Lawrence Plan 2005-2010. These official data has been produced as part of the St. Lawrence Action Plan 2011-2026.
Access sites are located along or near the shore. Data have been validated by the Comités ZIP and by Stratégies Saint-Laurent in 2010 and 2011. In order to make more data available, a second validation process with satellite images has been made under the leadership of Public Works and Government Services Canada in three areas: the Richelieu river, the lake St. Louis and the metropolitan area of Quebec (from Cap-Rouge to Sainte-Pétronille and from Saint-Nicolas to Beaumont). SLGO subsequently continued the validation process using Google map and Street view for all access located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence from Île d'Orléans to Gaspé and on the north shore from Baie-Sainte-Catherine to Mingan which were reviewed and update. These last two validations result in the integration of 401 new access points throughout the territory of St. Lawrence and Richelieu River.
Data available via the St. Lawrence INFO application include hydrobases, wharves, launching ramps, marinas, beaches and shores, coastal parks, lookouts and rest areas.
