Biophysical characterisation of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges, area des Grèves

The team of the Comité ZIP Sud-de-l'Estuaire, in collaboration with the municipality of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges, carried out a characterization of the hydro-sedimentary unit of the area des Grèves. The main objective is to determine a potential site for the restoration of fish habitat as part of a project funded by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Biological and geomorphological characterization was carried out in the summer of 2018.

The characterization of the territory made it possible to obtain a global and current portrait of the sector. The area of the maritime marsh and the eelgrass bed where mapped. Despite the presence of degradation in certain sectors, these seem to be in good health. Inventories of flora and fauna have given us an idea of the species present in this sector. In order to limit the phenomenon of erosion and improve the resilience of the environment, a transplant project in the marsh, a beach nourichment and the planting of native species adapted to the conditions are planned for summer 2019.
